Dr. Mrs. Lalithambal Natrajan.

It is a long journey from the Ulhasnagar Girls College with less than one hundred girls students of pre-university Course in 1961 to Ulhasnagar College of Arts, Science and Commerce and finally to R.K.Talareja College with nearly ten thousand students belonging to various streams of Junior, Degree and post graduate sections. The College has grown as a shelter for more than 300 teaching and non-teaching staff members. I am proud to be associated with the College for the past two decades in my capacity as teacher, Vice Principal and the first woman Principal.

The institution has made greater strides in both academic and extracurricular activities over the past decades. This year is no exception and the teachers and students have continued to shine in academic world and outside. Our students have stood first in Bsc Physics, and secured second and third ranks in BA Hindi at the University level. The students are doing equally well in other activities too. The NSS, NCC and Gymkhana students are making our presence felt at the University and National level. The College has organised a university sponsored workshop and UGC sponsored National seminar. The teachers attended seminars, conferences and workshops outside and many of them have presented papers.

India is already recognized as power house of knowledge in the era of globalisation and educational institutions have played a major role in this development. As the world is aging, the young Indians have tremendous global opportunities with the right skill and attitude. Soft skills play a key role in this. We have been marching ahead in the computerization of College. The library was computerized in 2008-09 and the College started a UGC sponsored Net Work Resource Center last year. The college has been awarded an additional grant of 25 lakhs for networking of the College and other activities. I earnestly hope that the entire College in networked by computers within one year so that the students and teachers are able to get internet facility everywhere with better access to computers. I would like to acknowledge the role of Prof.Rooge and his team members in developing the necessary programmes for the College. We are also trying to overcome the problems of infrastructure bottlenecks and invertors have been already installed in library and first floor and second and third floor provided with invertor backup during the year. We are also trying to create additional working space by building another floor in library. Our goal is to keep the oldest College of the Thane district the youngest in spirit and dynamism.
